History

Sadie is an 11 month old, spayed yellow labarador retriever. 

Presented

Sadie came into the hospital with a bump on the end of her tongue.  It had been there for almost 2 months.  Sadie was not having any trouble eating or drinking; the bump did not seem to bother her.

Workup

We decided to remove the bump and send it off for histopath (dissect specimen for cytologic examination).  We sedated Sadie under general anesthesia and removed the smallest portion possible off of the tongue.  After a few days, the histopath results came in - Calcinosis Circumscriptia.  These lesions are benign and are common in young, large-breed dogs.  They occur on the tongue and skin.

Follow-up

Sadie is doing great.  The only difference is a slight change in the appearance of her tongue.
